1) Why is the BBC reporting this, but no American media outlets have picked up the story?
2) HOW THE HECK DID THIS MAN GET ELECTED TO OFFICE? MORE THAN ONCE?

Wikipedia has interesting insight on this, and no, he is no longer in office, but has participated in several other activities that might be referrred to as 'questionable'.
